Foundayo vs Wegovy pill: which GLP-1 pill is right for you?
Foundayo and the Wegovy pill are the two once-daily GLP-1 pills approved for weight loss in the U.S. The short answer: the Wegovy pill showed more average weight loss in its trial, while Foundayo is easier to take, because you can swallow it any time of day with or without food. They contain different medicines, come from different companies and have never been tested against each other in the same trial.
Key takeaways
- Active ingredient: Foundayo is orforglipron (Eli Lilly). The Wegovy pill is semaglutide (Novo Nordisk), the same medicine as Wegovy injection and Ozempic.
- How to take it: Foundayo once daily, with or without food. Wegovy pill once daily in the morning on an empty stomach, then a 30-minute wait.
- Weight loss in trials: about 11% average body weight loss on Foundayo 17.2 mg over 72 weeks; about 13.6% on Wegovy pill 25 mg over 64 weeks.
- Heart protection: the Wegovy pill is also approved to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death in adults with heart disease. Foundayo does not have that approval.
- Price at US Quick Health: Foundayo $1,042.99 per month with a subscription, Wegovy pill $1,742.99 per month with a subscription.

Which pill causes more weight loss?
In the trials on their labels, the Wegovy pill came out ahead on average:
- Foundayo: adults without diabetes lost 7.4% of body weight on 5.5 mg, 8.3% on 9 mg and 11.1% on 17.2 mg after 72 weeks, against 2.1% on placebo. On the 17.2 mg dose, 54.5% of people lost at least 10% of their weight.
- Wegovy pill: adults without diabetes on 25 mg lost 13.6% of body weight after 64 weeks, against 2.4% on placebo. 59.8% lost at least 10% of their weight.
These were separate trials with different people, lengths and designs, so the numbers are a guide, not a direct comparison. Individual results vary a lot, and the medicines are meant to be used with a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.
How do you take Foundayo vs the Wegovy pill?
This is the biggest day-to-day difference.
Foundayo is taken once a day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole, do not break, crush or chew it, and do not take more than one tablet a day.
The Wegovy pill has strict rules because semaglutide is poorly absorbed from the stomach. Take it once a day in the morning on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of plain water, swallow it whole, and wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else or taking other pills. Coffee, juice and breakfast all have to wait.
If you take several morning medicines, or you often forget to wait, Foundayo’s routine is simpler. If an empty-stomach routine is easy for you, the Wegovy pill’s rules may not matter much.
Dosing schedule
Both pills start low and go up every 30 days to limit stomach side effects.
Foundayo: 0.8 mg for at least 30 days, then 2.5 mg for at least 30 days, then 5.5 mg. After that the provider can raise the dose step by step to 9 mg, 14.5 mg and 17.2 mg, at least 30 days apart, depending on how well it works and how well you tolerate it. The maximum is 17.2 mg a day.
Wegovy pill: 1.5 mg on days 1 to 30, 4 mg on days 31 to 60, 9 mg on days 61 to 90, then the 25 mg maintenance dose from day 91.
Side effects
The most common side effects are nearly the same for both pills: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, indigestion, bloating, burping, reflux, headache, fatigue and hair loss. In the Foundayo trials, 8% of people stopped the medicine because of side effects, compared with 3% on placebo, mostly because of stomach problems. In the Wegovy pill weight loss trial, 6.9% stopped because of side effects, compared with 5.9% on placebo.
Both labels carry a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors, and neither pill should be used by people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or with MEN 2. Both labels say to stop the medicine when pregnancy is recognized.
Birth control and other pills
Foundayo can lower the effect of birth control pills. The label says people using oral contraceptives should switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method, such as condoms, for 30 days after starting Foundayo and for 30 days after each dose increase. Non-oral hormonal methods, such as the ring, patch, shot or implant, should not be affected.
The Wegovy pill raised levothyroxine levels by 33% in a drug interaction study, so people on thyroid medicine may need closer monitoring. Its label found no clinically significant effect on ethinyl estradiol or levonorgestrel.
Foundayo also interacts with some medicines that affect the liver enzyme CYP3A4 and with simvastatin above 20 mg. Give your provider a full list of what you take.

- Wegovy pill: $1,742.99 per month with a monthly subscription, or $1,842.99 for a one-time order of 30 tablets.

Which pill should you choose?
A provider makes the final call, but these points usually decide it:
- Foundayo may fit better if you want a pill without fasting rules, take other morning medicines, or want a lower price at US Quick Health.
- The Wegovy pill may fit better if you want the larger average weight loss seen in trials, have heart disease and want the cardiovascular approval, or have already done well on semaglutide.
- Neither may fit if you have a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2, are pregnant or planning pregnancy, or have had pancreatitis. Tell your provider about these first.

Foundayo vs Wegovy pill FAQ
Is Foundayo better than the Wegovy pill?
Neither is better for everyone, and the two pills have not been compared in a head-to-head trial. In their own studies, the top Wegovy pill dose (25 mg) produced more average weight loss than the top Foundayo dose (17.2 mg). Foundayo is easier to take, because it has no fasting rule. A provider weighs these differences against your health history.
Is Foundayo the same as Wegovy?
No. Foundayo contains orforglipron, made by Eli Lilly. The Wegovy pill contains semaglutide, made by Novo Nordisk, the same active ingredient as Wegovy injection and Ozempic. Both are GLP-1 receptor agonists taken once a day.
Can you take Foundayo with food?
Yes. The Foundayo label says to take it once daily with or without food. The Wegovy pill is different: take it in the morning on an empty stomach with up to 4 ounces of plain water, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medicines.
Which pill causes fewer side effects?
Both labels list the same kind of common side effects: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain and indigestion. Trials of different drugs are not directly comparable, so neither label shows that one pill is gentler. Side effects are most common while the dose is being increased.
Can I switch from the Wegovy pill to Foundayo?
Only with a provider’s plan. Using two GLP-1 medicines together is not recommended on either label, and the Foundayo label starts every patient at 0.8 mg. Your provider decides when to stop one medicine and how to start the other.
Do I need a prescription for Foundayo or the Wegovy pill?
Yes. Both are prescription medicines. At US Quick Health, a licensed U.S. provider reviews your online consultation and decides whether either one is appropriate. If no prescription is written, you get a full refund.
